Description
  • Several studies concerned with the influence of atmospheric pollutants and other stress factors (such as ozone) on the conifers have documented an increased emission of (mono)terpens and some other volatile compounds into ambient atmosphere. It is further assumed that the production and emission of these biomarkers could be related to the resistance of trees to the bark beetle (Ips typographus L.). In our study solid phase microextraction (SPME) was investigated with the aim to recognize its applicability for the measurement of terpenes emitted by bark and twigs of conifers. The work presented describes the optimization of automated SPME procedure for terpene analysis in bark samples. Using several kinds of fibres factors influencing performance of SPME were investigated. Identification and quantification of analytes was carried out employing gas chromatograph equipped with mass spectrometric detector. Finally, the differences in terpene emission between bark and twigs observed in t
