  • 12. Phenylalanine was oxidised with either potassium peroxodisulphate or glyoxal. The major product identified was phenylacetaldehyde followed by bibenzyl, benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol. The importance of radical reactions is suggested. In systems withglyoxal, ten heterocyclic compounds arose as minor products.
