  • This work investigated phenol fed-batch degradation without substrate inhibition. The control strategy of phenol dosing according to dissolve oxygen was designed. This strategy was realized by a program in the control system MFCS/win 1.1 (B. Braun Biotech International), and experimentally verified in conditions of oxygen excess and deficit in fed-batch cultivation of the yeast Candida tropicalis. Correlation between the phenol degradation speed and the amount of phenol dose was studied especially. The experiments show that specific rate of phenol biodegradation does not depend so much on the amount of dose but rather on current physiological state of cells.
