Description
  • Historical pursue of the first spherical tungsten particles appearence lead us till the article on tungsten discovery by Spanish brothers D´Elhuyar in 1783 [1]. The authors used the zinnvaldite ore of Czech provenience for tungsten oxide preparation. After the subsequent reduction of oxide by carbon in a closed crucible they observed pin´s-head size tungsten balls. No later developed technology, that applies carbon for reduction of tungsten oxidic compounds produces such balls. Even thermal sprayedtungsten particles do not show the ideal spherical shape. The first preparation of well shaped globular tungsten particles by plasma spraying was described by Austrian authors in 1963 [2]. Similar looking rounded W-particles can be obtained by leachin g of #heavy metal composites# (W-Ni-Cu pseudoalloys).
