Description	An ethnobotanical survey was conducted on medicinal plants used in the Mbanza-Ngungu region of the Bas-Congo Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. Between February 2009 and May 2012, semi-structured interviews and participatory observations were conducted with 51 traditional healers selected with the “snowball method”. A reference herbarium was collected and the samples identified using the plant collections at the Kisantu botanical gardens and the University of Kinshasa. The aims were to identify the most widely used medicinal plants and their relative importance locally, and to compare their food and non-food uses. During the interviews, we recorded the use of 195 medicinal plants, including 165 identified botanical species belonging to 138 genera and 56 families. Leaves and roots were the most commonly used parts of the plants (63% of citations), with decoction as the most frequent method of preparation. These plant remedies were mainly taken by mouth (71%). Le but était d’identifier les plantes médicinales populaires en médecine traditionnelle, de documenter leur importance relative et de comparer l’usage alimentaire et non alimentaire de ces plantes.
