Description
  • Recent biological invasions provide opportunities to investigate microevolution in contemporary scales. The tempo and scope of local adaptation is determined by intensity and kinds of changes in genotypes within populations. In proposed review we concerned to the role of hybridisation during postinvasion evolution in Fallopia taxa. There are three invasive taxa of the genus in Central Europe, two parental species and their hybrid. Using flow cytometry, isoenzyme analysis, analysis of cpDNA and several ecological experiments we traced the path of adaptive changes in the genus, especially in the hybrids. We provide the evidence of rising of hybridogenous species F. bohemica. We also confirmed that sexual reproduction promote the colonizing ability due to increasing of genotype variability. Knowledge of the likelihood and speed at which adaptation evolves in invasive plants is important for management practices when evolutionary changes enhance ecological abilities to spread.
