| Description
| - The effect of the cessation of grazing on dynamics of weedy species was studied in an upland grassland in the Jizerské Mountains. Experimental pasture was abandoned from 1998 to 2002 and after that it has been managed by late cut for three years. Within four years of abandonment, differences among swards caused by previous continuous stocking and rotational grazing had disappeared and tall weedy grasses (Holcus mollis, Elytrigia repens) and shade-tolerant weedy forbs (Ranunculus repens, Veronica chamaedrys) dominated all swards. Cover of Rumex obtusifolius increased after cessation of grazing management as well. On other hand Taraxacum sp. was gradually reduced in the course of abandonment. The most interesting was initial increase and than substantial decrease of R. obtusifolius after grazing cessation. Consequent late cut was the most detrimental for Rumex obtusifolius. Cessation of defoliation supported cover of some weedy species and increased uniformity and patchiness of grassland with previousl
