Description
  • This contribution compares properties of both organic and mineral soil horizons in two mountainous areas with different inputs of acid deposition. The Jizera Mountains was chosen as an area strongly influenced by acid deposition, the Novohradské Mountains on the other hand represents an area less affected by acid deposition. Statistical comparison of selected soil properties was performed to reveal similarity and differences of organic and mineral soil horizons between the above mentioned regions. 98 samples of the O and 95 samples of B horizons were collected in the Jizera Mts., 53 and 58 respectively samples were collected in the Novohradské Mts. Total content of C, N, S, Ca and Mg, and soil pH were determined. Moreover, contents of Al extractable with 0.5M KCl (AlKCl) and with 0.05M sodium pyrophosphate (AlNa4P2O7) were measured. Organic horizons in the Jizera Mts. had significantly higher content of S, N and both Al forms compared to the Novohradské Mts.; content of Mg was lower in the Jizera Mts
