Description
  • Comparison of sensitivity of three freshwater snails (Potamopyrgus antipodarum, Helisoma trivolvis and Radix auricularia) to selected toxicicants: Cr in Kaliumdichromat, Cu in copper sulfate, Zn in zinc sulphate was made. For the tests we used square full glass aquariums with 2 liters of standard diluted water. The time of exposure was 96 hours and the tests were evaluated 24, 48, 72, 96 hours after exposure. The responses of snails to tested toxicants were observed and closely evaluated, namely: mortality, immobilization and histopathology. Water snail P. antipodarum was the most sensitive species in our tests (LC 50/96 hour 0,052 mg/l; EC 50/ 48 hour 0,86 mg/l for copper; EC50/48 hour 7,21 mg/l for Zinc). As the most effective response in water snails after 48 hours of exposition we found immobilization.
