Description
  • An essential problem of the environment there is heavy metal contamination. Environmental friendly technology introduces phytoremediation to clean up contaminant soil by plants. Hyperaccumulator species show mostly small aboveground biomass and complicated harvestable. Species like willows or poplars are able to accumulate high amount of heavy metals due to their greater biomass and are easily harvested. We have tested some of these species to compare their remediation use. We have used three soils with different level of Cd and Pb contamination and species from hyperaccumulator group, accumulator group and maize like a control. Uptake and remediation potential of hyperaccumulators and accumulators were mostly the same, but accumulators are more sensitive to the content of heavy metals in soil. On medium contaminated soil is probably an advantage to plant accumulators due to their greater biomass.
