Description
  • The influence of different mechanical weed control in silage maize stands on the weed spectrum was studied in 1998 to 2000. Four variants were compared: 1. without weed eradication (check), 2. mechanically weeded from the beginning of the vegetation period till the 5-leaf stage of maize, 3. mechanically weeded from the 5-leaf stage of maize till the end of vegetation, 4. mechanically weeded throughout the whole vegetation period. The mechanical cultivation of the maize stands was done in 14-days intervals. Chenopodium album was the main annual species in three years average (till 90 % of dry matter of all weeds) and Cirsium arvense was the main perennial weed species (till 80 %). The decrease of annual weed species and the increase of perennial species in the following year was registered. Permanent cultivation caused a widening of weed spectrum, and also a moderate increase in perennial weed proportion. On the other hand one dominant species significantly prevails in the non-treated plots and mechan
