Description
  • The influence of various ways of regulation of weed infestation in silage maize stands on weed spectrum was studied in 1998 - 2000. Four variants were compared: 1. without weed eradication (check), 2. mechanically weeded from the beginning of vegetation till the phase of 5th maize leaf and later on without protection, 3. mechanically weeded from the phase of 5th maize leaf till the end of vegetation, 4. mechanically weeded throughout the whole vegetation period. The mechanical cultivation of the maize stands was accomplished in 14-days interval. Chenopodium album was the main annual species in three years average and Cirsium arvense was the main one from perennial weed species. There was registered the decrease of annual weed species and the increase of perennial species in the following year. Permanent cultivation causes widening of weed spectrum, and also a moderate increase in perennial weed proportion.
