Description	Free software development brings a very important aspect. It provides access to technology users who, for various reasons, cannot afford to use proprietary systems. The issue of availability of geographic data is interesting especially with regard to the freely available data sources. This fact influences significantly the ability of students to use selected applications of mathematical methods and gain comparative advantages, which are well applied in the particular field of study and modeling of natural phenomena. Geo-technologies are considered as one of the main fields supporting the decision-making in 21century and moreover, this interdisciplinary technology offers the research-based learning experience.
