Description
  • The common belief that prokaryotes are not able to synthetize glycoproteins has been challenged by accumulating evidence for glycosylated bacterial proteins in recent years. The glycosylation of bacterial proteins might serve specific functions in infection and pathogenesis and interfere with inflammatory immune responses. Despite their importance, this post-translational modification has not been studied in Gram-negative intracellular pathogenic bacterium Francisella tularensis, so far. The presence of glycoproteins in bacteria has been investigated using different proteomic approaches.

  • Běžné názory, že prokaryoty nejsou schopny syntetizovat glykoproteiny, byly nedávno změněny hromadícími se důkazy glykosylovaných bakteriálních proteinů. Glykosylace bakteriálních proteinů mohou plnit specifické funkce v infekci, patogenezi a zasahují do zánětlivé imunitní odpovědi. Navzdory jejich důležitosti, nebyly dosud tyto posttranslační modifikace studovány v gram-negativní intracelulární bakterii Francisella tularensis. Přítomnost glykoproteinů v této bakterii byly zkoumány různými proteomickými metodami. (cs)
