Description
  • Combat survivability becomes the main requirement for new military aircrafts. One of the factors that influence aircraft combat survivability and increase combat efficiency is an effective ABDAR (Aircraft Battle Damage Assessment and Repair) program. The paper aims on potentialities of image processing and computer vision tools in the ABDR assessment process. Battle damage assessment is playing a key role in an effective ABDR program. The computer vision and image processing tools can make the assessment process more accurate and more rapid. The main scope of our research is to use digital pictures of damaged parts, combine them with the full 3D CAD model of the aircraft and estimate the extent of the damage. So far our research is limited to damage caused by firearms of 12.7mm caliber. The schematic diagram of MATLAB code, performed experiment and first results are described in this paper.
