Description	The earliest historical record of Collembola from the territory of the former Czechoslovakia was for November 2nd, 1672, in Central Slovakia, and it is the oldest record in the world, as well. Early serious scientific studies on Apterygota were done in the 1850s-1860s in the caves of Moravian Karst by Wankel, and later on by Kolenati and Müller. At the end of the 19th century, Uzel (1891) published his monograph of the Bohemian Apterygota. Absolon (during 1899-1942) made important taxonomic contribution to the Collembola of Moravian caves as well as to the development of their knowledge on a worldwide basis. He described many new collembolan species and genera and introduced new characters and styles for their descriptions and taxonomy. Important papers, especially on the Apterygota from Slovakia were published by Stach (1922, 1930, 1947-1963). Kseneman made important taxonomic contributions from our territory, and laid a theoretical basis for soil zoological community studies (1938).
