Description
  • Phagotrophic protists are diverse and abundant in many environments, making them fundamental to the transfer of matter/energy within their respective food webs. Their grazing impact, which includes their prey selectivity, is essential in ecosystems. Many approaches and perspectives have been pursued, not all of which are compatible. This article is the product of our discourse at the SAME 10 meeting. A framework for selective feeding processes was suggested: searching, contact, capture, processing, ingestion, digestion; Study approaches were considered in 2 categories: (1) those examining whole organisms at the community, population, and individual levels, and (2) those examining physiology and molecular attributes. General problems associated with the field of protistan selective feeding (e.g. linking food selection into food webs and modeling) were presented. Overall, this paper should stimulate further discourse on the subject and provide a roadmap for the future.

Přístupy ke studiu jsme rozdělili do dvou kategorií: (1) studium celého organismu na úrovni společenstva, populace a individua a (2) studium fyziologie a molekulárních vlastností. (cs)
