  • Body melanization and desiccation tolerance were analyzed in ten Drosophila melanogaster populations collected at high and low altitudes from five latitudes along the Indian subcontinent. Significant latitudinal cline and altitudinal differentiation were observed for cuticle pigmentation and survival time of desiccation. Both traits were found to be closely associated with average temperature and relative humidity among study sites.

  • Melanizace těla a tolerance k vysychání byly analyzovány u deseti populací Drosophila melanogaster sebraných ve velké a malé nadmořské výšce v pěti zeměpisných šířkách na indickém subkontinentu. Byl nalezen významný gradient pro rozsah pigmentace kutikuly a čas přežití při vysychání se zeměpisnou šířkou a rozdíl v různých nadmořských výškách. Obě vlastnosti byly těsně spjaty s průměrnou teplotou a relativní vlhkostí míst sběru. (cs)
