Description
  • In a mesotrophic reservoir, we examined the effects on the bacterioplankton of distinct consumers of bacteria, viruses and heterotrophic nanoflagellates. Ribosomal RNA-targeted probes were employed as well as denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) to enumerate bacterial groups and assess bacterial community composition. We employed probes for Actinobacteria, Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroidetes, Betaproteobacteria and a subgroup-Betaproteobacteria (R-BT). We found consumer-specific effects on bacterial activity and diversity suggesting distinct vulnerabilities to the two sources of mortality. Growth rate of Actinobacteria was only positive in the presence of flagellates, while growth rate of R-BT group was only positive in the viruses only treatment. Highest richness was found in the virus only treatment and lowest when both consumers were present. In addition, bactivory by flagellates was associated with reductions in bacterial diversity and increases in viral production.

  • V mesotrofní nádrži jsme studovali vliv dvou odlišných skupin bakteriálních konzumentů, virů a heterotrofních bičíkovců, na planktonní bakterie. Ribosomální RNA-cílené sondy a denaturační gradientová gelová elektroforéza byly použity ke studiu početnosti a složení společenstva bakterií. Byly použity sondy pro skupiny Actinobacteria, Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroidetes, Betaproteobacteria a pro podskupinu Betaproteobacteria (R-BT). Odlišné změny v aktivitě a diverzitě bakterií byly vyvolány různými konzumenty. (cs)
