Description	The exterior condition of self-sustainable feral populations of common (European) carp have been studied in the reservoirs and related waterbodies of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (New South Wales, Australia) in 1997/98. The condition factor reflecting the relationships between fish total length and weight was used to compare the differences with respect to fish sex, sexual maturity and habitat. On the contrary to farmed populations, no differences between males and females were found in exterior condition factors, and neither they reflected the level of fish ripeness as expressed by gonadosomatic indices. Carp inhabiting lotic environments (irrigation channels) showed significantly (P < 0.01) better condition factors than fish from lentic waterbodies (reservoirs). Exterior condition parameters also fell with fish age and sexual maturity - the condition factors in juveniles were significantly (P < 0.001) higher as compared to adults.
