  • Gamety jeseterů se liší od spermií kostnatých ryb přítomností akrozomu s 8-10 posterolaterálními výběžky u spermie a více mikropylemi v jikře. Tato vícečetnost mikropylí může sice poskytnout spermii výhodu snazšího nalezení vstupu do jikry, ale na druhou stranu zvyšuje riziko polyspermie, která může být pro embryo letální. Funkce akrozomu a proces fertilizace u jeseterů byla zkoumána pomocí světelné, fluorescenční a elektronové mikroskopie. Fluorescent Soybean Trypsin Inhibitor konjugovaný s Alexa Fluor? 488 dye? byl použit k monitorování akrozomové reakce. Akrozomální reakce zahrnuje formování kopí podobnému fertilizačního filamentu, vznikajícího ze 3 endonukleárních kanálů a implantační jamky (protější strana jádra), skrz akrozom. Ten zrychluje proces prevence polyspermie. Další unikátní vlastnost akrozomu je kotvě podobný otevírání posterolaterálních výběžků, který zabraňuje uvolnění spermie z mikropyle během penetrace. (cs)
