| - The state of the environment (air, water quality, etc.) is much better recently in comparison with the situation 23 years back. The most important factor affecting the entvironmental consciousness are media. Environmentalist are presented as a brake of economical growth in CR often and environmental topics are described airy without professional backround. Environmental sciences lost prestige and the economy is the top science in our society. New law acts in the 1990th and after the access of CR to EU (EIA, SEA, Natura 2000, etc.) help to protect environment. The enforcement of environmental law is relatively high. This is negatively accepted by many politics. A variety of individual activities of NGOs contribute small parts to increasingly integrated approaches to regional development, where economic development, environmental protection, and socio-cultural preservation combine to promote sustainability. NGOs have endured through changing political and economical conditions, providing stability and serving as catalysts for long-term efforts at sustainable regional development. The Czech curriculum reform brings many positive changes. Among others, environmental education is introduced as a mandatory subject. The task of experts and teachers will be to supervise a non-formal environmental education, but rather a practical approach (both theoretical and experimental). The education depends on the quality of teachers, which is degradated by their small economical appreciation. It is still a low environmental awareness among children, adolescents and adults due the consume style of life and official media politics. EU has the positive four-square due the fact of control of Czech politics and managers. We have no qualitative data about the level of environmental consciousness, but our feeling is that the environmental consciousness is lower in comparison with 1990th years.
