Description
  • : Over the past twenty years there have been significant changes in the number of heads of farm animals. During the years 1989 - 1995 the number of cows and the number of horses decreased to one-third. However, since 1995, horses are one of the farm animals at which the greatest numerical increase has occured. The current number of horses in the Czech Republic exceeds 74 thousand pieces. In the Czech Republic are led stud books for twenty breeds of horses, of which the decisive role play Czech warmblood, English thoroughbred, cold-blooded breeds - Noriker, Silesian noriker, Czech-Moravian belgian horse, Hucul and Old-Kladruby horse. In the Czech Republic the last four named breeds are ranked among animal genetic resources and state donations encourages their breeding. Over the last four years in the Czech republic the number of horse farms has nearly doubled. The remaining problem is the increasing number of crossbreed and breeding horses without pedigree, which currently make up 27% of the number of horses bred. Breeding of the different breeds is provided by breeding associations, most of which are members of the Association of horse breeders unions. This organization is a partner for negotiations with the Ministry of Agriculture and provides all-round development of the horse breeding sector. To maintain long-term development of horse breeding strategic vision for development and use of horse breeding in the Czech Republic until 2013 was elaborated. This vision includes not only breeding, but it is also associated with the use of horses, whether sports or work and development of other sectors related to horse breeding, regional development, rural development, human resources, business sector, sport and tourism.
