Description
  • The water chemistry of the running waters in Stropnice River catchment and fishponds in Třeboň basin (South Bohemia) is influenced by main ions inputs with runoff from the land. Concentrations of main ions (Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+, HCO3 -, SO4 2-, Cl-, NO3 -) increased considerably in running and fishpond waters during the period of general intensification of both the agricultural and fishpond productions, from the 1950s to the end of the 1980s. The catchments under study experienced a rapid intensification of land use. Arable land formed significant part of landscape even in the less-favored areas for agriculture. More than 35% of the agricultural land were drained using a subsurface drainage system. The highest main ions concentrations were found around 1990 in both running and fishpond waters. During the past 20 years considerable decrease in the concentrations of the main ions was observed. Currently, the concentrations of total dissolved solids reach approximately only 60% in comparison
