Description	The aim of the work is to assess the current iodine content in cow milk in the Czech Republic. In 2008, 85 bulk milk samples were analysed using the colorimetric method. The average iodine content in milk was 435.6?328.7 µg I?l-1. Low values (less than 80 µg I?l-1) were shown by 5% of the samples; values of 80 to 250 µg?l-1 were in 30% of the samples; 31% of the samples contained 250 up to 500 µg I?l-1. In 34% the iodine content exceeded 500 µg?l-1. The given values testify to a continuing tendency for iodine in cow milk to increase. An increase in the concentration of iodine in milk above 200-500 g -1 constitutes an undesirable load for lactating cows and consumers of cow milk caused by an excessive iodine intake. 200 µg -1 of milk can be considered as optimum iodine content in cow milk in terms of the health and needs of lactating cows and inhabitants of the Czech Republic.
