Description
| - Natural radioactive elements in rocks emanate alpha, beta and gamma nuclear radiation, and also neutron radiation. The main sources of nuclear radiation in rocks are potassium, uranium and thorium. Isotopes 238U, 235U and 232Th are maternal elements of decay series, are they are unstable and generate nuclear radiation. Important radionuclides of the 238U decay series are isotopes 222Rn (radon), which occur as radioactive emanations in all rocks, in the soil air, in construction materials and in groundwater. Radon isotopes emit alpha radiation. Since the main source of radon is the rock environment (geological bedrock), the local population should be informed about the distribution and concentration of radon in a particular area or on a building site, so that the public can be protected from radiation exposure due to radon daughter products. Such knowledge leads to the application of measures to prevent the penetration of radon into residential buildings during the planning stage and also during const
