Description
| - The production of animals with superior muscle structure is of great importance to food animal agriculture. Muscle Regulatory Factors regulate skeletal muscle fiber development and postnatal hypertrophic growth. The genes of the muscle regulatory factors? gene family, consisting of 4 structurally related transcription factors - myogenin, MyoD1, myf-5, and MRF4. Myf-5 is one of four transcription factors belonging to the MyoD family that play key roles in skeletal muscle determination and differentiation. Myostatin acts as a negative regulator of muscle growth. Mutations in the gene are responsible for the double muscling phenotype in several European cattle breeds. We analyzed Charolais breed from Hungary. We used a PCR-RFLP method for genotyping Myf-5 gene and myostatin Q204X mutation. These genes play an important role in the muscular development regulation. The heterozygous genotype was mostly representated in Myf-5 gene. As for myostatin, it was identified 10 heterozygotes in Q204X mutation. The r
