| - Weed plants are one of the main factors limiting the level of agricultural yield. Because of the availability of herbicides in the last 50 years, the competitiveness of field crops to weeds has been overlooked. The relationship between the cultured and the weed plant was supposed to be negative. However this relationship could contribute to the formation of a stable agroecosystem as the weeds can play a positive role in the agroecosystem. Modern conventional varieties are not selected in accordance with their indirect morphological or biological features; however, these features - the shape of a tuft, the length of a plant or the position of leaves - contribute to a increase in competitiveness,. - Plevelné rostliny jsou významný problém ekologického systému hospodaření. Díky snadné dostupnosti herbicidů v posledních 50-ti letech byla konkurenceschopnost pěstovaných plodin vůči plevelům přehlížena. Vztah kulturní a plevelné rostliny by měl přispět k vytvoření stabilního agroekosystému, protože plevele mají v agroekosystému také pozitivní roli. Moderní konvenční odrůdy nejsou vybírány podle jejich nepřímých morfologických a biologických znaků; ačkoliv tyto znaky ? tvar trsu, délka rostliny nebo postavení listů ? přispívají ke zvýšení konkurenční schopnosti vůči plevelům. Nicméně konkurenční schopnost současně šlechtěných konvečních odrůd může být testována v podmínkách ekologického zemědělství. Vhodný tvar trsu je jedním ze znaků zodpovědných za vysokou konkurenční schopnost vůči plevelům. Vyšší odrůdy ale mohou přinášet některé další problémy, jako je poléhání.
