Description
  • The biomass of coprophagous beetles (Scarabaeoidea, Hydrophilidae) in the fresh cow dung was monitored on a sub-mountain dairy farm using pitfall traps baited by 1.5 litre of dung. The major peaks of beetles activity were identified in May, in July and in August / September sampling periods (mean dry weight biomass ? DW trap-1: 3.05 g, 3.52 g and 6.03 g, respectively), while in June and October periods lower beetles activity was recorded (mean DW trap-1: 0.47 g, 0.51 g, respectively). In all the samples the greatest amount of biomass belonged to the species without burial breeding behaviour, whereas the tunneling beetles (laying eggs in pieces of dung burried in the soil) formed a minor part of sampled biomass (4 ? 18 % of mean DW trap-1). The highest burial activity can be expected in May and in September due to breeding activity of Ontophagus spp. and Geotrupes spp. (respectively).

  • V čerstvých kravských výkalech na podhorské pastvině byla sledována biomasa koprofágních brouků (Scarabaeoidea, Hydrophilidae) za použití padacích pastí s návnadou 1,5 litru výkalu. Období nejvyšší aktivity brouků bylo zjištěno v květnu, v červenci a v srpnu (3.05 g, 3.52 g a 6.03 g sušiny na jednu past), zatímco v červnu a v říjnu byla zaznamenána menší aktivita (0.47 g, 0.51g). Druhy s tunelovou aktivitou při vytváření hnízd tvořily menšinu nasbírané biomasy (4 ? 18 %). Největší tunelová aktivita brouků může být očekávána v květnu a v září díky stavbě hnízd brouky rodu Onthophagus a Geotrupes. (cs)
