  • The objective of the paper is to study the impact of Šumava mountainous spruce forest decay on changes in the land cover temperature and humidity. To assess temperature and humidity parameters, the Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ data were analysed. The satellite scenes were taken on July 11, 1987 and July 28, 2002. To calculate the land cover temperature the 6th thermal channel TM and ETM+ was used. The assessment of humidity was based on the land cover wetness index calculated by the Tasseled Cup method. For comparability reasons, values were transformed into relative categories. In this case, the equiareal method was used. Temporal comparison of relative data (temperature, the wetness index) was performed on the basis of a matrix analysis. The study confirms the assumption that decay of mountain spruce forests in central Šumava leads to changes in land cover relative temperatures, specifically to a significant warming. Such changes are supported by the fact that the relative seven-grade temperature
