Description
  • The concept of %22autoimmune disease%22 is used to describe pathological conditions in which the body is attacked by autoantibodies, i.e. by antibodies created by the cells of the immune system in the patient's body and directed against the antigens of own tissues. The causes of origination of autoantibodies in the organism have not been completely recognized yet; there are probably always several factors in play. There are a lot of autoimmune diseases and virtually any organ of human body can be affected. The nurse can be very helpful in this regard because she can help the patient to adapt to the new reality by adequate nursing intervention, influencing positively the quality of life. This article pays attention to non-specific intestinal inflammations and systemic lupus erythematosus, from among the great number of autoimmune diseases, and deals with their impact on the quality of life. The non-specific intestinal inflammations are included due to their topicality and due to their increasing incidence including high prevalence in young population. There is no doubt that the quality of life is often distinctively disturbed by such disease in young age already. The second of the diseases we have selected is specific by affecting almost all body organs, usually several of them simultaneously in different combinations. The variability of the organ impairment is related also to different clinical displays and it can be therefore assumed that each individual with such disease will have the quality of life affected in different way. The goal of this article is to outline the impact of the above stated diseases on the quality of life of the patients. The article was created based on the analysis of theoretical sources; the part devoted to the issue of systemic lupus was further completed with pieces of knowledge found out based on the research investigation performed within the Bachelor thesis dealing with nursing care for patients with systemic lupus.
