Description
  • An important factor in fulfilling the needs for the correct functioning of a family as a unit is the parents' age. Among many others, an important task of the social worker is to evaluate a child's family background and find out whether the parent, when regarding their biological age and mainly psychological and social maturity, is able to take care of themselves and others, in this case, of a child or children and other family members (the other parent, relatives). The goal of our research was to find out how the parents' age determines long-term child hospitalisation, what are the other related casualties, and to suggest possible remedies. In order to obtain data, we carried out a structured interview with parents. The research sample comprised 52 parents whose children and minors from 0 to 19 years of age have been hospitalised at various children's healthcare facilities. It has been found that up to 52% of hospitalised children's parents were up to 40 years of age. Other significant differences to other variables have not been proven. The income of the analysed families mainly includes social benefits (child allowance), benefits in material need, and earnings as opposed to other possible economic security measures. As shown, one reason for hospitalizing children is the lack of financial resources in families where parents are trying to provide for medication and examination expenses, thus leading to numerous and long-term stays in healthcare facility
