Description
| - A series of nontoxic biodegradable polyurethane (WBPUs) elastomers was prepared by casting of their water emulsions. The polyurethanes were synthesized by two-step polymerization, using isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), 1,4-butandiol (BDO) and L-lysine as a chain extender and a range of soft segments with various macrodiols composition. The soft segments were formed by replacing polycaprolactone diol (PCL) with hydrophilic polyether polyol. Hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) or poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) of different molecular weight were used to this purpose. The materials prepared were investigated by Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). The results show that properties of the polyurethanes prepared are directly related to the composition of soft segments which enables easy preparation of biomaterials with demanded properties.
