Description
  • Vaginal delivery may lead to perineal trauma, which can cause pelvic organ prolapse and stress incontinence in the long term. One of the methods of reducing or even avoiding perineal trauma is manual perineal protection (MPP). To date, there is no research that would approach MPP from the point of view of basic science. The goal of this unique study is to assess the effectiveness of MPP using finite element modelling. The results show that application of MPP during the second stage of delivery has significant influence on the stress values throughout the entire thickness of the perineum.
