  • High-frequency pulsation of the steam flow and vibration of piping system was discovered during test period of 1000 MW ŠKODA turbine operating with inlet-saturated steam in nuclear power plant Temelín. Control valves and piping system radiated high-powe r noise. The only possible way of pulsating flows reduction was to change the geometry of inner channels of control valves. Several variants of valve channel geometry were tested. Main attention was given to the variant with flat-bottom-plug and perfor ated ring called “muffler”. The new designs are compared in the paper with the original one by field turbine measurements, by numerical simulations and by model experiments. Mach number and velocity distribution in valve channels and diffuse r and also pressure pulsation characteristics of steam flow in inlet pipes are described for the wide range of turbine-output.
