Description
  • The paper deals with the problem of the non-stationary temperature field produced in a non-magnetic or ferromagnetic long tubular conductor by electric current of general time dependence. The task is formulated and solved as a hard-coupled problem with respecting all physical properties of the material that are functions of the temperature (in case of the ferromagnetic material also of the magnetic flux density). Solution to the problem is carried out by means of an explicit modification of the finite difference method. One of the practical applications of the problem is heating of the rod of an earthing switch that is flown through by fault currents. The theoretical analysis is supplemented with solution of such a typical example and discussion of its results.
