Description
  • Nowadays, the whole territory of the Czech Republic is scanned by LIDAR and a digital elevation model of fifth generation is prepared. The model is based on a structure of irregular triangular network and will store very detailed data ? 0.3 meter height accuracy ČÚZK (2011). Therefore there will become a need to store and efficiently manage very large volumes of triangles. The paper focuses on widely used data format ESRI Geodatabase, particularly the terrain dataset structure, and its two methods of creating pyramids (z-tolerance and window size). The aim of the paper is to test these available methods of pyramids creation and suggest a methodology for creating suitable overview pyramids. All created overview pyramids are compared to source data and evaluated using a volume base criterion.
