  • The conference is the most important and largest European scientific meeting in archaeology. For the first time it took place in the Czech Republic. Its organizer was the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy; co-organizer (logistics): Guarant International. The main author: Prof. PhDr. Martin Gojda, CSc. - chair of the Organising Committee and of the Scientific Board of the conference. The conference was officially supported by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture and the City of Pilsen. Principal themes of the conference: 1. Interpreting the Archaeological Record, 2. Archaeological Heritage Resource Management, 3. Theory and paradigms in Archaeology 4. Public Archaeology, 5. Archaeology of food and drink, 6. Archaeological Science. A pre-conference two-day trip and post-conference day trips to important archaeological sites and monuments were organized as well. The academic programme passed continuously in 18 lecture rooms/halls. In 91 sessions 953 lectures were presented and 195 posters in 58 sessions were displayed. There were 1397 officially registered participants from the whole world (most of them came from UK: 180, Czech Rep.: 150, Germany: 135) including USA (55) and Australia (7).
