Description
| - Very fast transient phenomena on transmission overhead lines caused by lightning strokes generate very high peak value of voltage and current. It is necessary to know not only these values but their place on the line, too. That is why a complex analysis of surge phnenomena should provide the time-space distribution of voltage and current along the whole line. It enables an approach using model of transmission lines created as a circuit with distributed parameters which can be described by system of partial differential equations of hyperbolic type. Our algorithm for the numerical solution of these equation is based on FDTD methods (Wendroff's difference formulae) and enables to investigate many interesting practical poblems. It allows to take into account homogenous and non-homogenous lossy lines, time and space varying parameters, various shapes of lightning stroke surge waves and various manners of line ending (short-circuits, unloaded, matched or unmatched lines). Our algorithm can be used for an analysis of very fast transient phenomena caused by atmospheric discharges in various structures (overhead lines, cable line and their connection including arrester, line tower or communication towers).
