Description
  • The aim of this work was to find a technically undemanding and efficient process of recycling of white bronze chips, which are cut away when manufacturing castings. Further requirements on the process were that the recycling had to be carried out without large investment and had to be suitable for a small amount of material. The small volume and large surface area of the chips causes intensive oxidation of the charge during remelting and therefore the metal burns out instead of being melted. Cutting liquid remnants also have a negative effect on the recycling process. Existing remelting technology did not provide satisfactory results and it was therefore modified to increase its efficiency and the amount of recycled metal. Six different recycling variants were tested in the first step. The chips were compacted with or without addition of antioxidant and then remelted to investigate the influence of compacting on the efficiency of the process. Even though the oxidation of the chips was partially sup
