  • In modeling advanced steam power cycles, thermodynamics properties as function of pressure and enthalpy (p,h) or pressure and entropy (p,s) are required in the critical and supercritical regions (region 3 of IAPWS-IF97). With IAPWS-IF97, these calculations require cumbersome two-dimensional iteration of temperature T and specific volume v from (p,h) or (p,s). While these calculations in region 3 are not frequently required, the computing time can be significant. Therefore, the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) adopted backward equations for T(p, h), v(p, h), T(p,s) and v(p, s) in region 3 along with boundary equations for the saturation pressure as a function of enthalpy, p3-sat (h), and entropy, p3-sat (s).

  • Při modelování moderních cyklů parních elektráren je zapotřebí znát termodynamické vlastnosti v kritické a nadkritické oblasti (oblast 3 v IAPWS-IF97) jako funkce tlaku a entalpie (p,h) nebo tlaku a entropie (p,s). Výpočty teplot a měrného objemu z (p,h) lze s použitím IAPWS-IF97 provádět těžkopádně pouze ve dvou krocích. Přestože nejsou tyto výpočty v oblasti 3 často zapotřebí, výpočetní čas může být poměrně významný. Proto Mezinárodní organizace pro vlastnosti vody a vodní páry (IAPWS) přijala rovnice pro zpětný přepočet T(p,h), v(p,h), T(p,s) a v(p,s) v oblasti 3 pro meze tlaku sytosti jako funkce entalpie, p3-sat (h), a entropie, p3-sat (s).
