Description
  • The goal of this conference was to present educated and independent opinions of leading Russian experts in order to help us to understand the current situation and trends in the Russian society. The topics of the afternoon seminars were the media in Russia and the Russian economy (structural, quantitative and qualitative challenges, and the role of Russia in the world economy). The participants included the following: Konstantin von Eggert, a former Editor-in-Chief of Radio Kommersant and BBC Russia; the analyst Nikolay Petrov, a professor at the Higher School of Economics and previously also at the Carnegie Moscow Center; and Natalia Zubarevich, a professor at the Moscow State University. In cooperation with: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The role of Russia within the international community has been widely discussed in recent months, with the contemporary international crises underlining the importance of the matter. Therefore the aim of the conference was to offer educated and independent views of high-profile Russian experts that would help us to understand the current situation and current trends. The speakers and topics shed more light on the political, economic and societal development of Russia, its attitudes towards Europe and the USA as well as civil society and freedom of speech, and the media landscape in the Russian Federation.
