Description
  • Author shows that the historiography reduced the Great Moravian tradition to several motifs, among which two ones dominate: 1. the motif of translatio fidei, i.e., of the translation of faith to Bohemia, which is connected with the story of the baptism of Bořivoj, with the issues of the continuity of the ecclesiastical institutions and of the Slavonic liturgy or with the reverence of Cyril and Methodius; the phenomenon of Velehrad as a (non-) ream of memory can be perceived as a link connecting these motifs; 2. the motif of translatio regni, i.e. of the translation of the kingship (or, on more general level, of reign as such) from Great Moravia to Bohemia, which was gradually formed from the memory of King Svatopluk and his kingdom.
