Description
  • This article aims to discus pressure drops in a heat exchanger of the convector. The heat exchanger is a main part of an innovative floor convector. The convector is designed for two operating modes, heating and cooling. For the specific type of floor convector, it is required to determine pressure drop of the heat exchanger as the water flows through the system. For all the devices connected to the heating circuit of the building, it is required to declare a table values of pressure drops, which should be used in the future design of the entire water circuit. This article discusses the utilization of numerical modeling by means the finite element method to obtain the values of the pressure losses in the newly developped heat exchanger of floor convector and subsequent experiment on a real device. Numerical analysis of the pressure losses were based on the CAD geometry in COMSOL Multiphysics module Fluid Dynamics. The measurement was based on the exact flow of the liquid, pump controlled with ultrasonic flow meter, heated / cooled liquid tank and two piezometric tubes. The results of numerical analysis were in a good agreement with experiments and determined that pressure losses occurring in the heat exchanger of the convector significantly increase with the decreasing temperature value of the water.
