  • In this paper, three cotton samples with different weaves ( Twill, Poplin and Satin) and six cotton samples with varying pick density and the types of yarn (Ring and Rotor yarn) are tested for vertical wicking to observe the kinetics of liquid transport and are analysed for liquid transport behaviour. Kruss 100 tensiometer (kruss k 100) is used to measure vertical wicking behavior of woven fabrics using n-decane and distilled water and contact angles of these samples are measured. Observations for vertical wicking with decane using tensiometry and water absorbency and spreading using gravimetric absorbency tester are reported. The kinetics for fabrics having Ring plied warp yarn and Ring or Rotor yarns as weft is higher in warp way because of ring plied yarn in warp providing the continuous pore to raise the liquid faster. With increase in pick density results in increase in capillary constants in both warp and weft way of testing. Assisted mode of testing in Inplane wicking tester results in improvement in absorbency rate and liquid spreading area due to increase in surface capillary assistance
