Description
  • Denim manufacturers apply certain textile auxiliaries on denim clothing in industrial clothing washing process to impart assured properties. Such treatment modifies the thermal and sensorial characteristics of denim clothing. For this study two sets of denim; traditional denim by using cotton yarn as warp and weft and novel denim by using cotton yarn as warp and spun PP yarn as weft. These sets were desized, rinsed, bleached and treated with cationic and silicone softeners. Impact of weft variation and application of two distinct softeners was studied. This investigation was carried out by using the Alambeta thermal comfort tester and by conducting a survey. The study reveals that in both cases people prefer hand feeling of denim treated with silicone softener as compared to cationic softener but this conclusion is not statistically significant.. Moreover, people state that traditional denim treated with silicone is less cool, which is also verified by the Alambeta. However, in the case of novel denim, there is a contradiction in the views of evaluators and the Alambeta results.
