Description	Fe3Al - based iron aluminides are structural materials characterised by low material cost, low density, and excellent oxidation and sulfidation resistance. Corrosion resistance properties of iron aluminides may enable their use as structural elements in glass making. Already in 1950´s the Fe40Al1C alloy (FeAl type) was tested in Czech Republic for corrosion resistance in molten glass. Results of corrosion resistance were very good, but low room-temperature ductility, bad machinability and big content of carbon stopped further tests. However, recently these disadvantages were improved using other types of iron aluminides (Fe3Al) with low carbon content and suitable alloying (cerium, chromium). Proper hot rolling and thermal treatment is also necessary.
