| - The objectives of this 5th Framework Euratom project were to improve knowledge of fission product retention in steam generator tubes during a nuclear power plant severe accident with tube or primary collector rupture, to verify and develop predictive models to support accident management interventions. One challenge was to develop model for the mechanical resuspension of aerosols that could be used in severe accident codes. The scope of work covered experimental investigation, analysis of typical accident scenarios and development of mathematical models. It was shown that the existing models for turbulent deposition, which is the dominant aerosol deposition mechanism in dry conditions and at high flow rates, contain large uncertainties. The results of the project are applicable to both PWR plants with vertical and VVER plants with horizontal tubes in the steam generator.
