| Description
| - The Czech Republic, despite some positive developments since joining the EU, remains still behind old EU member states in support for cycling especially on municipal level. Spending for cycling is being cut on all levels (national, regional and municipal) and cycling is not yet generally accepted as equal mode of transport. That is one of the main reasons why the National Cycle strategy is being updated and new strategy will be put in place for 2013-2020 with overall goal to improve conditions for cyclists. Since this National Cycling Strategy is prepared based on the model of already approved German Cycling Strategy (within the project Central MeetBike), it is possible %22to copy%22 a lot of good ideas. One of the most important undoubtedly is more active involvement of cities not only in the process of preparation and implementation of the National Cycling Strategy. Therefore, on the occasion of the National Bike Conference, held on May 31, 2011 in the town of Uherske Hradiste, several towns joined together and signed the Charter of Uherske Hradiste. It focuses on long-term support of cycling and linking those who profess its active promotion. Other cities have joined the Charter gradually and there are already 23 of them to the date October 18, 2012.
