  • The fall of the Iron Curtain at the end of the 1980s naturely brought a radical change in social discourse which of course brought about a reaction in visual arts, too. At the beginning it seemed that the main ambition of the long isolated Central European scenewould bet he adoption of both the topics and means of expression characteristic of the sphere of ´Western´ art. The fascination of new technology, the initial interest in the unknown art from the East, the discovery of market and institutional mechanisms ? all this led to a temporary copying of globally succesful visual strategies, which , however, existed in a certain estrangement from the local socio-cultur reality.
